So today at work one of our nurse/ surgical assists came around the corner and bumped into me. When she took in my belly she got really wide- eyed and said "oh, your belly is really growing there!" To which I casually responded "Yep, it gets bigger every week." I was smiling...
So then she asks "when are you due again?" and as soon as I said "October" the look on her face changed from a grin to a horrified grimace. "Wow, just wow! You still have a long way to go then huh?"
Um... WTF is that supposed to mean? Apparently in her eyes I am already a ginormous whale. I wonder what she is going to say in another month or two when I ACTUALLY start to get big? Too bad I've only gained 7 lbs in the last 20 weeks... I guess that doesn't count for much in my overly large preggo state.
(PS in her defense I usually wear scrubs which hide the belly A LOT. Today I had a conference to attend so I wore "professional" maternity clothes which kind of accentuate the belly... but STILL... why make that kind of comment? It's just plain RUDE!)
Can we say hormones anyone?

People say rude stuff to me all the time. Today I heard "are you sure you're due in November because you look pretty big". Umm..yeah, it's November.
I've decided instead of getting an attitude I'm going to cry, crying makes people feel bad :-)
I'll beat her up for you if you want.
Yeah, I'll help Ophelia whoop her ass for you LOL!
Some people are just retarded and don't think before they speak. I was constantly told I was "HUGE" when I was pregnant. I eventually got honest with people and said "I'm sure you mean nothing by it but maybe think twice before telling a pregnant woman she is huge or look at her like you've just seen the Michelin man." I made quite a few people shove their foot in their mouths. :) DUMB PEOPLE!!! THINK< JUST THINK!!!
YOu my dear are hardly huge. Go look at my blog, I will post a pic of me at 20 weeks and then 39 weeks. I was huge!
that's obnoxious. You look adorable and right on target! Maybe she hasn't spent much time around anyone who is pregnant to understand that you do actually get a belly because you have a little person in there?! (Since she's a nurse, you'd expect more, though, hmm?) Try not to let her reaction get to you. Everyone else thinks you look fantastic! :)
You are not huge!!! Stupid people and their insensitive comments!! You are a wonderfully beautiful pregnant woman :)
Talk about rude! Has she ever sense a pregnant woman? You look perfectly average, even small belly wise too me. That woman was obvisouly crazy.
I used to get that ALL THE TIME from cashiers, from strangers, from the "door police" at Costco, even from the dumb nurse who drew my blood at the lab. It used to bother me so much, to the point of making me cry!
After a while, I learned to be proud of my ginormous belly - we went through hell to get pregnant and I was proud of my strong and healthy baby girl!
My dear, you look BEAUTIFUL - not huge.
People are idiots.
What a moron! Her comment/reaction was rude and I'm sure she didn't think about how it came across and I'm even more sure she's never been pregnant herself or she'd never have let it cross her lips. I think you look great & your bump is gorgeous. Keep rockin it girl!
HOW RUDE!!! Blow raspberries at her!
Seriously what is wrong with people? It's like as soon as a pg lady walks in the room they have license to say WHATEVER they want to her??!! WTF? I just don't get it!
She's probably also jealous. Don't let her make you feel bad. You and I look great if I do say so myself!! We actually have very inshape bellies from what I've seen! Just right for where we are! Don't let her get to you! You're doing just fine. I wish I was only up 7 lbs! :)
And yes, I'm thrilled we're both having girls! We're going to have a blast and will have to keep in touch to help each other once they arrive!!! Any names yet?
Kitty
People said that to me too... they just don't think when they speak. But I still believe that the skinnier you are, the more you show when you are pregnant, so take heart!!
People have diarrhea of the mouth when it comes to a pregnant women's belly. I hate to say that this is most likely not going to be the last nasty thing you hear but odds are, it's not. Just know you look great and tell her she is just jealous that you look better pregnant then she does on a normal day.
I came across your blog via "taleoftwocoins"...and I HAVE to share MY pregnant-belly story: I had our PSYCHIATRIST (at my workplace) say (LOUDLY) to me "Wow you're getting HUGE! How many babies are in there?"; I responded, "One." And he LOUDLY says, "No WAY! My secretary was carrying 4 and she was way smaller than YOU! You really are HUGE!". Yep, I left early that day. In tears. And swearing like a truck-driver. People are sometimes so dumb! Anyways...you look amazing...damn the cottonwoods & all :)
