Decisions, decisions

Another week has gone by, with no updates from me.

Batman has been home all week and has commandeered the computer most of the day. Needless to say, I have WAY too many blogs to read now.

So...
Batman...

Our original plan was for him to go back to school and get his teaching certification here. We both have our BA's from here already (mine in history, his in English), but we never got teaching certification (I didn't because, well I have NO desire to teach. I have no patience.). Anyway, they offer a program that allows you to get Idaho certification within 18 months or so while also working towards a MoE. Unfortunately, part of this program includes 16 weeks of student teaching. Which means, basically quitting your job and working in the schools full time. Not getting paid. And paying the university for the credits. Lovely huh?

We knew this was coming and saved for it. However, it still scared the bejesus out of us, going 4 months with no real* income to speak of.

So when Batman quit his job at the hospital in May to go on orders at the base, we thought things would continue as planned and he would just be out of work for 4 months, do his student teaching, find another job and we'd be fine. But life doesn't' really ever go as planned does it?

Batman's orders ended and then were extended for another month which brings us to the present (well a week and a half ago).

We just can't justify him being completely out of work for 4 months with no job prospects after that other than *POSSIBLY* teaching. for pennies. Especially when I SAH and we are trying to pay off debt (using this plan. We are SO close!). We asked ourselves what really made sense (what would DR say), where we were going, and what did we really want to accomplish.

And we decided to hold off on student teaching and certification. Instead of student teaching, Batman was able to convince the school to let him just complete the MoE without certification. And now he's looking for work.

Which should be fun in this economy.

He's got a few prospects. He's applied for a couple of full time positions at the base (which would be our first choice). We are looking at active duty. He's working with his dad here and there as needed. He's going to contract with his old job to do some training of the 2 people they hired to fill his position.

So that's where we are. Heavy decisions being made. Hoping something works out in the near future.

Thankfully we have savings to keep us afloat for a while. Please keep us in your prayers that Batman will get a job soon.

I think I'm a little stressed to say the least.

*besides my very minimal income from cheer and Batman's drill and disability pay

Good luck girlie! Love that you are on Dave's plan. I live in Brentwood, TN, where he lives and is based. I listen to him every day! (although sadly, do not follow his plan, which I SHOULD)
