Batman's favorite ornaments

Was there any question these 2 would be his?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone!

We've had a busy morning already opening up some gifts for Brynna and Batman and me from my family (Our gifts to each other are "to be bought" and Brynna got LOTS of books from Batman and me). Batman got a new coat that looks pretty dang fabulous and little miss and I got a trip to... DISNEYLAND!! Yippee!! My parents and older brother had a trip planned in January (they go just about every year) and decided to include the two of us (since Batman will be in AL for military training- OTS) I'm so excited!! :) I can't even tell you how much I love Disney!!

Here's what a our tree looks like this year:

It took us a while to get it since we've been so busy. We (meaning Brynna, my FIL and I) went out last week and found one at a tree lot (we had thought about getting a permit to cut down one ourselves up in the mountains, but we ran out of time). I love how it turns out every year. Since Batman in the USAF we do a lot of the ornaments in red, white and blue, along with our normal ones.

And here are our new favorites this year:

I got this one last year from my MIL. I love it!

This one Candi sent us when we lost our little bean in January. I will treasure this one always, remembering the little one we lost.

And this one my IL got Brynna this year. I heart it for obvious reasons. On the back is her name and birth date engraved.

Upcoming post with Batman's favorites too ;-)

Way behind... again

Once again, time has gotten away from me and I haven't blogged at all! Eek! Here's a quick "week in review" for us:

-B turned 8 weeks old on Wednesday. The little stinker is up over 11 lbs! What a little chunk! :)

-I finished making Christmas gifts for my family and got them out in the mail on Friday- assured by the post office that they would make it to Seattle by Wednesday, definitely before Christmas.

-Received B's Christmas dress in the mail from my mom and dad- SO CUTE! It's a little sleeveless red number with embroidery- I will be taking and posting pics on Christmas. I heart it! I just hope it fits her- it's a 3/6 mos- but it does have a tie in the back where I can cinch it if I need to.

- Saturday Batman worked half a day since his company is a big sponsor of the Christmas Run. He dressed up in Alf the Bear costume and did a great job dancing around and hugging kids (or so he says... I wasn't there HA!).

- My BIL and SIL are in town with the kids so we spent pretty much the rest of the weekend at my IL house, "doing Christmas" with them (B got some pretty cool new toys! I'll talk about them in another post because I have some questions for you BTDT) and having a nice time.

-I'm down almost 35 lbs since having Brynna. Now only about 30-35 lbs to go (turns out I gained "slightly" more than I thought- about 47 lbs while preggo. Add to that, I gained a good 15 lbs while ttc- which I completely blame on Clomid- so I still have a ways to go).

-Batman finished his semester of grad school and believes he did really well. We won't have the official grades until after the first of the year, but he was acing his classes the last he checked :) Good job babe!

- Cheer is over for the year (we start back up Jan 12). We did a sock exchange for our Christmas party on Friday night and I got these AWESOME over the knee socks from one of the girls. Her reasoning behind picking those particular ones was because I have "long legs" and she can't wear socks like that- I'm 5'6" and she is 4'9"

- Kino has been on antibiotics since Tuesday and heads to the vet tomorrow morning for the teeth cleaning. Hopefully, the $400 quote they gave me won't amount to that ACTUAL amount (that is worst case scenario). If they don't have to pull out any teeth it will be much lower so keep your fingers crossed for that!

- We finally got our Christmas tree on Monday and got it up and decorated by Wednesday. I love how it turned out (I always do)- look for a post coming about our favorite ornaments!

I think that's about all this week. I hope everyone is alive and kickin' and has all their shopping done!!

We have a fat ass dog

Kino had his yearly vet appt today. 114 lbs. YIKES! I guess the weight management food we've been feeding him has NOT been working as effectively as we had hoped. Time for a diet big boy!
Oh and his teeth are infected so he has to go in on Monday to have them cleaned. $400. Lovely.

There's a first time for everything

We survived. Brynna survived.

Batman had his company Christmas party last night. It was the first time we've left Miss B with ANYONE. You can imagine I was kind of a nervous wreck (Batman on the other hand was completely fine with it... typical man)! All went well though.
Batman's parents came over and watched her for the 3 hours we were gone. They did a great job and even put her to bed before we got home. Oh and folded a bunch of our laundry (sweet!).
We even had a pretty good time at the party. We did a gift exchange that included half "good" gifts and half white elephant gifts. It was pretty hilarious some of the things that people brought. We came home with a great bucket of different beers and nuts (someone stole it from Batman, but I got it back for him). We would have also come home with some very hideous angel ornaments, but Batman left them hidden at the host's house (it's kind of a tradition with him and them- they leave theirs in his office sometime the week following. He hides his somewhere in their house). OVerall, we had a great time.
I don't know if I'm ready to leave her again soon though. I just missed my girl so much... is that sad or what?

Bathtime!

We've been able to get both Nana (my mom) and Grandpa and Grandma (Batman's parents) to give Brynna her bath.
Here are a few pics of the fun bath times :)

7 weeks

Goodness, time is just flying by too fast! I can't believe Brynna is already 7 weeks old!
I can't think of anything new that she is doing this week. She's smiling more and more and she has started doing this thing with Batman where he does the blublublublu sound (you know where you move your finger over your lips?) to her and then will rub his finger over her lips at the same time. She has taken to opening her mouth and making little noises while he does it. It's TOO cute! We'll have to get it on video one of these days! :)
Here is her pic this week:

Thanks for the advice on pumping. The last couple days I've been making a concerted effort to pump about an hour or so after she nurses (if I'm home and available to do it). I haven't gotten a huge amount saved up (well, it's only been a couple days) but I'm ahead a couple days, so that's nice :)

Some pics

I'm terrible about taking pictures with our actual camera, but I do take at least one everyday with my phone- I send them to my family since they live so far away and don't get to see us often. Here are a few of my favorites over the last week or so:

Her royal sleepiness:

First trip to Lowe's

From a couple weeks ago- snuggling with Dad

Last night, playing video games with Dad- holding her head up like a champ!

BTDT... a little help?

I need some advice. I really want to build up a little surplus of milk so I can go out once in a while without taking Brynna, but I'm at a loss how. I usually pump once or twice a day, but it ends up only being enough for one bottle which Batman gives Brynna that evening. How can I increase my supply to get enough for more than one feeding? I'm obviously producing enough since little miss is up to over 10 lbs already... but I need help with logistics. Should I pump an hour after every feeding? Right after each one? Right before?
This momma needs to get out once in a while and now that I'm back into cheer (and Batman refuses to let me take B to games with me), I need to get a stash in my freezer!
Help!

One year

Do you remember this little guy? Well, he officially turns one year old today! I can't believe how fast it seems time has gone. It seems like he was just born a few months ago and here he is, already a big boy! I got to spend all afternoon with him and his mom yesterday (and Miss B, of course) going to our favorite store and just hanging out :) Still love him... although not nearly as much as this cute face:

Houston we have POOP!!

And a blow out it WAS!! Yippee!! She is just so much happier tonight than she has been, I'm sure it's due to dropping her load ;-)

Who would have ever thought Batman and I would be so excited over bowel movements? Oh how things change!

6 weeks

(and a day- although the pic was taken yesterday)

I can't believe she is already 6 weeks old! OMG!! Where has the time gone? (oh and for those of you mommies that are able to blog everyday... PLEASE tell me your secret!! I feel like I have no time for the computer and have been cut off from the outside world!! Gah!)

Here's her 6 wk pic- a very happy one!

She has starting cooing this week and smiling more and more (as you can see in the pic). We took her in to the doc yesterday and she weighed in at a whopping 10 lbs! Yowza! She is still having bowel issues. As in, NO poop unless we stimulate her in some way, whether that's a thermometer, a finger, or a suppository. Karo and brown sugar water doesn't work. Neither does massage. Blah! I probably should be thanking my lucky stars that we have only had to change about 8 or 10 poopy diapers in the last 6 weeks, but instead I'm just worried. Her doc isn't though, so I guess I just have to let it go...

Our Thanksgiving was nice and low key. We watched the Macy's parade on TV in the morning and then headed to my IL for lunch/ dinner and games. We stayed in on Friday and relaxed.
We watched our BSU team take the WAC on Friday as well. Great game and they remain 6 in the nation! Can't wait for this Sunday's BCS Bowl announcement! We are hoping they make it into the Fiesta Bowl or the Sugar Bowl.

Sorry I'm still a bad blogger... hopefully I can learn all your secrets of time management with a baby SOON!!

5 weeks

Is she really 5 weeks old already? Apparently.

Also apparently, I am a terrible mother because I haven't documented any of her previous weeks. Oops!

Here she is though, all 5 weeks of her ;-)

We sent this pic as a "Happy Birthday"- gram to my older brother today. She wasn't so happy that I made her sit and have her picture taken. Such is her rough life.

Mommy and Brynna

I just love this shot my mom took of me and Miss B this morning- I HAD to share :)

Oh and as of this weekend Brynna is up to 9 and a half pounds! I can't believe she is getting so big, so quickly!

Mr Ferber, I take my hat off to you

My mom is in town "helping" out (by helping, I mean she mostly is giving me advice- which honestly is turning out really good- and holding Brynna. I don't mind this "help" since she never gets to see B since they are 500 miles away, although I could use a little help with the mountains of laundry I have put off doing the last couple of days) until Wednesday.

Wonder of wonders, she was able to get B to sleep in her CRIB last night. Not on our chests, not in our room... in her OWN room and in her OWN crib!!
Apparently, she had a LOT of luck with the Ferber method with me and my siblings (even though I was a holy terror- it's a wonder she had TWO more kids after me!) and both peds she works for advocate it as well. She gave us some very logical explanations as to why it works and how it works. It's all about training your child to soothe themselves if they wake up in the middle of the night (or in our case, just to go to sleep). That's not to say we didn't comfort her. We went in every 10-15 min to comfort her and calm her down.

While I did have a (VERY) hard time just letting B cry for a while (I cried a little too), we made it through unscathed. She finally drifted off around 11:30, then she woke up at 12:30, 3:30 and 7 to eat. She fell right back to sleep IN HER CRIB as soon as she was done eating and changed. OH MY! I had forgotten was fantastic sleep was like (since I haven't had much for MONTHS) even if it was interrupted a couple times! I think Brynna had a pretty good night's sleep too and I doubt this will scar her forever.

Tonight will be round two. I'll let you know how it goes, but I will tell you this: As much as I hate to hear Little Miss cry, I am SO much more stubborn than she is ;-)

Mr Ferber (or is it Dr?), you are my hero!

Revolt waylaid

Well the boobies have stalled their revolt for the time being. Looks like I don't have the yeasts after all and the mastitis is clearing up. Little Miss went to PT on Thursday and we got some exercises to do with her before each feeding. Turns out she doesn't "trough her tongue" and she also doesn't bring her tongue forward over her gums when she nurses (aka she has basically been biting my nipples for the past 4 weeks) YOUCH! The exercises seem to be helping already although I still hurt.

I bought some of this stuff the other day and I think I may try and buy stock in it. SO much better than lansinoh! It seems to be healing the nips already and I've only used it one day!

The Mastitis

And the yeasts. The boobies are plagued with both. Youch! And then there's the cracked, bleeding nipple-age, which seems to be the norm lately.

Little Miss has a "tight" mouth according the the lactation nurse, so PT has been ordered. We go see the (hopefully) nice lady today to see if we can't get her to relax a little when she's nursing.

Needless to say, this week has been a little more than agonizing in the boob department. I think they are both about to revolt! We are working on it, but WOW it's painful!

Advice Needed!

So we have been co-sleeping with Brynna since we brought her home (not in our original plan, but since she refuses to sleep if she isn't being held we really had no choice). Well, now it's time she at LEAST moves into her bassinet at the end of the bed, as my body just can't take her sleeping on me too much longer. But I'm at a loss on how to get her to sleep in it for more than 15 min stretches. She does fine taking her naps in her crib or bassinet, but when it comes to nighttime, she just flat out refuses!
Any ideas?

I heart hulu

Have any of you discovered this wonderful site? Oh my it's been my saving grace the last few days! I think I've watched about 2 full seasons of House Hunters (which I wouldn't normally get to see since we don't have cable) and it's been FANTASTIC!! I knew hulu existed a long time ago and have used it to catch up on episodes of The Office and Flashfoward, but I had no idea the plethora of shows to be found.

Seriously, I think I am in heaven!!

So busy...

I've been a bad blogger again :( There just are not enough hours in the day, I swear!! I'm trying to keep up with reading, but commenting has fallen by the wayside these days along with my updates :( I promise to try and update more often... Brynna just keeps me so busy (how is this even possible when she SLEEPS most of the day?). Speaking of... duty calls...

Brynna's birth story

I finally have a moment to get on the computer without feeling like I am neglecting something. I guess I didn't realize just how much work it can be, caring for a newborn. I am enjoying every minute of it though!

Short version: Brynna MaeLynn Walker was born at 1:39pm on October 21, 2009. She was 7 lbs 13oz

and 19.5 inches long with Apgars of 8 and 9.

Long(er) version:
As you all know, Tuesday my doc informed me that we needed to induce Wednesday morning bright and early since amniotic fluid level was to low. Batman and I did all the last minute things we needed to get done, had our last lunch just the two of us, and did everything we could think of to get labor started before Wednesday morning (DTD, nipple stimulation, more spicy food, red raspberry leaf tea, etc... I refused to go as far as Castor oil though... that's a little too far for me) ;-)

Wednesday morning we were up bright and early as we had to be at the hospital at 7am for admit. We checked in on time, waited for our room to be ready and finally got settled around 7:30. Our nurse, Lori went through all our paperwork with us, including our birth plan (which they were so good about following as closely as possible) and finally got IV'd up and got pit started around 8:15. My doc decided he wanted to get things moving as quickly as possible so about 8:30 he came in and broke my water. Thankfully, no meconium in the fluid, which he was a little worried about since she was a week overdue.

I didn't really feel any contractions, other than tightening like BH so about every 20-30 min they turned up my pit dosage. My IL came in for a visit around 10ish and I was still feeling really good. Contractions were regular at 1 min apart, but I still barely felt them. My parents came in around 11 (they drove in from Seattle) and we had the "party room" for a little while ;-)

Around 12:30 my doc came back in to check my progress and it turned out I was at a 5 already (I came in still at a 2). I was excited there had been some progress, even though I still wasn't feeling much. That's when things started to change.
Batman ran out for a couple min with his parents. They were running some last minute errands for us and needed a little instruction. I was starting to feel the contractions a little stronger. I was still able to talk through them, but they did take my breath away a little. My mom was helping me breathe through them until Batman got back and then I started to feel sick. I ended up losing all the jello they had let me eat that morning (lol I guess it serves me right for eating 3 bowls full... couldn't help it though. I was HUNGRY!) This was about 1:15ish (I think). I was really feeling uncomfortable now and thought it might help to sit on the toilet so Batman wheeled my IV friend in after me. As soon as I sat down I felt like I was going to be sick again (thankfully everything stayed down this time... gotta love the zofran kicking in) and ended up getting on all fours on the floor of the bathroom. (EEK!) All the sudden I felt the incredible urge to push. Batman quickly got our nurse and the two of them helped me get back to the bed so she could do a quick check. Turns out I was at an 8! Yipes! At this point I was having a hard time concentrating on breathing, but between Batman and Lori, they got me back on track. The pushing urge got a LOT stronger in the next couple minutes and she decided to check me one more time at my insistence. I was at 9.5. They had me turn on my side, which was nearly impossible with my contractions being right on top of each other. Lori called my doc and let him know things were moving fast and to head over, to which I overheard her say something about "in 15." In my pained delirious state I thought she meant it would be another 15 minutes before I could do anything, but she responded with "no room 15, dear." LOL silly me!
She had me start pushing and the doc, while it seemed to me to take him FOREVER to walk over (his office is adjacent to the hospital), got there in a few minutes. As soon as he walked in the door, I knew things were happening fast because he was first strolling in casually and then he took one look at my vag and got a very surprised look on his face. Batman said it was pretty priceless. He rushed into his gown and about 4 pushes later I had Brynna's head out, a couple more and she was officially born. They placed her on my tummy and it was instantly love at first sight! I had waited so long to meet my baby girl and she was so beautiful!!

I did have a small tear that required 2 stitches, but they haven't been too bad. Batman got to cut the cord too!

It's so amazing how quickly life can change and how in love you can be with someone you just met ;-) Things have been pretty crazy since we've been home and it seems like I never have a free minute to hop online. (I'm trying though) ;-) I may not comment as much, but I will be reading!!

BFing has been a work in progress, but we are committed to making it work. Brynna has a couple bad latch habits that we are working through, but overall it's going well. She is a hungry little monkey ;-)
She refuses to poop more than once every few days. Her ped isn't too worried since she is gaining weight, staying hydrated and is overall healthy, but of course I kind of freak out when we go more than a day or two (aka- out comes the rectal therm to stimulate some movement!!)

Induction... tomorrow

Eek! I think I freaked out a little in the doc's office this morning...

It's official though. Olive will likely be here sometime tomorrow. Induction to begin around 7am. Batman will be updating faithfully, so head over to his blog tomorrow to read the play by play.

We are trying to take things easy today and relax. Hopefully, we can both get some sleep tonight since the next few weeks, months, etc will probably be pretty sleepless ;-)

We made it through the weekend

And Olive is still on the inside. Batman went through his promotion ceremony, my cheerleaders did a fantastic job, family day at the base was fun (with yummy pumpkin pie!) and Batman bought me season 4 of HIMYM which we have watched almost entirely in the last 2 days.

And here I sit at work...

I kind of wish I had made Friday my last day. But I guess if I was at home, I'd just be going stir crazy... waiting...

I have a feeling these are going to be the longest days Of. My. Life. Nothing like anticipation...

Itchy itchy scratchy scratchy

My belly has been SO itchy in the last few weeks, but it has been taken to a whole new level as of last night.

I had a dream last night that Batman and I were camping with a group of friends and their kids. We were getting eaten ALIVE by thousands of mosquitoes! I woke up scratching my belly and legs. This is NOT good for stretch marks! I already have enough of them, for crying out loud! I've been putting lotion and oil on non-stop this pregnancy, especially in the last few weeks of itchiness...

If Olive doesn't come out soon, I may scratch my skin off!

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Appt... blah!

Still 1cm, still no changes.

Olive is hanging out for another week... probably. I have NST and u/s scheduled for next Tuesday and then an appt with the doc to discuss possible induction. I won't say I am dead set AGAINST being induced, but I would really prefer Olive to come when she's ready, rather than being forced into the world. It's COLD out here, you know!

She's still measuring right on and her h/b was again at 160. I didn't gain a single pound so that was a plus for me! Yippee!

Other than that, no real news.

At least I'll be able to watch my cheerleaders preform this Friday and Batman will get to go to his promotion ceremony at drill. And it's family day on Sunday at the base which is always a (sort of) fun afternoon. (I don't say 'no' to free food) ;-)

Maternity pics

Had some taken last night. On my due date. Because I'm WILD like that. Will post when I get them back from the photog ;-)

Oh and an appt today... we'll see if Olive has made any progress.

40 wk belly

DISCLAIMER: This is a completely TERRIBLE picture of me. Please don't tell me I look fantastic or any such nonsense because I know this pics is just wrong on SO many levels! I was in a hurry, hadn't finished getting ready this morning... and well... today's my EDD and I am still pregnant. Not that I mind all that much. Olive just needs a little more time to bake and I'm REALLY okay with that. Oh and please look past the fact that I am wearing white pants after Labor Day... not much else fits these days as my ass has taken on GINORMOUS proportions. Thank you. ;-)

So here it is- hopefully the LAST belly pic:

Nursery is FINISHED!!

It's finally finished. Hooray!! Batman and I worked really hard last week until we got it done. The only thing it's missing now is Olive and some framed pictures of her over the changing table ;-) Let me know what you all think!! Personally, I LOVE how it turned out! :)

FYI: updates from the hospital

For those of you who don't follow Batman's blog yet, you may want to start. He has figured out how to update his blog from his phone so we will be posting any and all hospital updates (whenver this little girl decides to make her debut) over there.
I probably won't update here until we are home so if you want the good play-by-play action, add his blog to your list :)

No change

That's what my doc said this morning at my appt. No change from 1 cm. I guess this girl really IS as stubborn as her mom and dad (I was 6wks late... and YES that is accurate- when my mom found out she was preggo with me, had the dates been off she wouldn't have been preggo at the time- Batman was 2wks late)
I'm not really concerned, as I've maintained all along that she will be a late arriver ;-) Plus we still have lots of stuff to get done.

The nursery is thisclose to being finished. Just a couple more finishing touches and we will be done!! (Hopefully, this evening)

7 Things "most" of you didn't know about me (totally random things):

This one might be a little harder for me... random things about me... Hmm...

1. My natural hair color is light blonde. One of these days I'll scan one of my senior pics from HS when I had "virgin hair." I didn't start dying it until college

2. Speaking of college, I went here for 4 years and have a BA in History with a minor in Biology... pretty useless when you find out I work in medical billing for a surgery office.

3. Other than Canada (and really only Vancouver and Victoria) I have never been out of the country.

4. My absolute FAVORITE place to go on vacation is Disneyland. Disney World was fun and all, but I much prefer Disneyland. It probably stems from all the great memories I have growing up going there on family vacations ;-) Batman, however, is NOT a Disney fan at ALL :( (which probably means Olive and I will have to go there with my mom and sis instead of him... LOL I wouldn't mind that at all)

5. I HATE fish!! Loathe it! Haven't really ever liked it all! However, I like clam chowder (Disneyland has the best!) and one of my cravings early on in this pregnancy was fish and chips from Ivar's (but ONLY from Ivar's). When I went on that DC trip with my mom in April I had some when I was in Seattle for a couple days and surprisingly enough, they were DELISH! I don't think I'll be eating them again though.

6. Batman and I met while working at 'bucks together. He was dating my friend at the time. Who turned out to be a complete psycho. Batman even set me up with a couple of his friends. Funny how things turn out.

7. I used to be a terrible nail biter (I know... eww! gross), as in biting them so short they were almost bleeding. I think it was a nervous habit I picked up from my dad when I was litle. Then all of the sudden one day I just stopped. I haven't been a nail biter since.

Here are my nominees:

1. Suzanne
2. Mary
3. Adair
4. Carbon
5. Coco
6. Emmy
7. Candi

I hope everyone participates! I love reading new things about all you ladies! :) Oh and sorry I didn't have time to link everyone's blogs... work calls for a little while longer ;-)

Appt update!

Nothing too exciting... sorry to mislead you all with the exclamation point

I am 1cm, Olive's head is "right there," and she is measuring right at 38wks (thankfully his estimate last week of "7lbs already" has stayed about the same, so either she didn't grow too much or the estimate was off) He still thinks she will be showing up around my EDD... I still maintain she'll be a few days late. We'll see who is right! ;-)

I told Batman we probably need to step up the nursery preparation though. It's probably better we have it done BEFORE she gets here (even if she won't notice). We hope to get it all done this week (pics to come of course!) and get all that last minute shopping done too. Wish us luck!

38 wk belly

I finally made a belly pic ON TIME! Woot!
Anyway, here it is from this morning. Please don't look at the ugly stretch marks that have formed ALL OVER THE BOTTOM HALF OF MY BELLY :*( *tears I tell you! Tears!*

Enough of that though. It's been an uneventful preggo week. No change in how I'm feeling (still pretty good, although tired... and HUGE) I have another weekly appt tomorrow morning. I'll update if I can :)

Not really much of an update other than the pic ;-)

OH, I quit my job yesterday. Batman and I decided that I am going to be a SAHM for a while and see how it works out. While I am SO excited I get to stay home with Olive, I'm completely freaked out that I will soon be *UNEMPLOYED*
It will be worth it, but MAN is it scary! EEK!
