Another typical Saturday

We spent most of today doing yard work... fun times. If there is one thing I hate about being a homeowner (you know, besides all the bills) is that I have to take care of the yard.

I hated yard work as a child. I used to tell myself it would be different, I would feel differently, when it was my own yard I was taking care of, instead of just mom and dad's.

Ya, notsomuch.

I really don't like digging around, with all the bugs and SPIDERS (have I mentioned I'm arachnophobic? Like completely irrationally so), in the dirt.

Don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed making a mud pie or two in my life. I used to LIVE for that as a kid. I can remember being about 5 and my older brother playing baseball. One of the particular fields was near a bunch of woods. I would spend all my time there getting dirty from head to toe. In a party dress. It was most likely pink. I remember my mom's reaction every time we headed home. Looking back I should have savored it more. Ha!

But in my "old" age, I've become completely irrational about bugs, spiders and the like and I hate yard work. Especially when my hands get so dirty that I can't get all the dirt off for like 3 days.

The things I do for love... right? Because that's why I do it... because I love Batman and I know he likes getting his hands dirty and having a nice looking yard...

Right... love...

I think it's more that I was afraid the weeds, and thereafter the bugs, would invade my HOUSE if we didn't take care of them soon.

Definitely love...

I have gotten through these thoughts by wearing a good pair of gloves....

I hate yard work for all the reasons you mentioned - the dirt, the bugs - but I also hate broiling in the sun while doing something I hate. Therefore, I don't do it. The flower bed in front of my house has been taken over by weeds and I don't give a rat's ass. ;-)

And, yeah, I'm an arachnophobe as well. If only you heard me scream when I came across a tarantula-sized spider in my house the other week. I trapped in under a plastic tupperware container and stacked books on top of it and then spent the rest of the day freaking out about it.

As much as I hate it too, at least you can do yard work! It's too friggin hot in these parts for anything outdoors! :D
