Back to square one

We've been trying to get on the potty training train around these parts.

Two words. Epic. Fail.

We thought she was ready. We got jelly beans as rewards (peds advice). We went and made a big production over buying big girl panties. We bought pull ups. We started out super optimistic.

We were duped.

She's just not ready yet. The final realization came this morning after we had "tried" to go potty 3 times (to Jo avail), we pull up the big girl panties and she promptly sits on the couch and pees. Everywhere. (promise I didn't get mad... Just realized its not time yet)

Fun times!

I think we will pack it all away and try, try again later.

Any and all advice and tips would be greatly appreciated.

Good for you for taking her cues and going with it. I'm sure she'll be ready soon =)

we tried and were successful when K was 2.5. It took me a good solid 5-7 days of following her and forcing her to try. We used M&M's AND the IPAD as rewards. to start off the day we began when she woke up i made a big deal about how she grew so much that her dipes didnt fit anymore and she was going to have to go on the potty now. at nap time and bed time i still used dipes and told her they only fit cause she was sleeping and staying still. it seemed to work for us. Try waiting a while and in a few minths give it another shot!

The best thing to do is wait until they are ready. Ella was a couple months before she turned three and only took a couple days. Sam was just over three and he pretty much did it all himself. Since we were using cloth diapers it wasn't like I was spending money on diapers so I wasn't in a hurry. It made it much easier on me and them I think.

I intro'd the potty to Keane at around the time of his 2nd birthday. He would just sit and chill on it sometimes with toys or books and if he happened to pee we'd make a big spectacle. We didn't really start training until the last 3 day weekend. The first day or 2 for us was a lot of accidents but by day 3 he got it because he didn't like having pee all over himself. If you want to keep trying, just be prepared that the first day is going to be a lot of accidents, but having her in undies instead of pull ups or diapers will be a big help in having her understand that she's wet. I say continue having her in the big girl undies, but have her wear the plastic pants over it, or put towels where she sits if you still want to try training. That worked for us. But of course, if she's not ready, then maybe she'll train quickly if you wait a few more months. Good luck!

We failed at potty training too. I told DH we'll be lucky if she's potty trained before she starts school!

We had to do the same thing with our little guy. A gal I know suggested the movie "Potty Time" worked VERY well for both of her kids. She said she bought it online. We haven't watched it yet (she gave me a copy) but I am hopeful that next time around it'll be a success. Best of luck to you guys and go for you for realizing it may not just be time yet.

She will train when she's ready - you are right to stop and try again later if she isn't ready. I just wrote about our potty training journey on my blog, if you're interested. But really, it's all about her being ready, I think. You know B! Don't push it, it's just not worth it for either of you.

Sorry! but good for you for waiting:) I have so many stories from friends who waited until their little ones were close to three /ready and then got PTing done in a few days with close to no accidents!! Much better then dealing with accidents for weeks and constantly having to think about it for them IMO.

My advice is to let her guide you and tell you when she's ready. :) I know it's harder to do than said but we didn't push V at all and she started doing it all when she was ready. We just taught her about the potty, toilet paper, got her a potty, etc. :) Best wishes!

We have crossed lever our hump with Jules. We just kept pushing forward. My only tip would be that we didn't wear anything on her bottom while at home"- she was breezy
