I was wrong

While, B's gums are a bit inflamed and her molars are "coming in the next month or so," that's not what has been making our lives a living hell these days. No, teeth are not the culprit.

Apparently, it's some kind of herpangina. Otherwise known as hand, foot and mouth. How IN THE HELL did my child pick up THAT? I guess, I thought that was only something she'd pick up if she were in daycare or around lots of other kids (we haven't been to church in a few weeks). Apparently, I was wrong.

You can get it from not washing your hands properly. It's a fecal-oral transmission most of the time. Basically, she got it from someone's poo. Who's, I have no idea, since we are pretty good hand washers in this house and so are my IL. So I have no idea. None.

I've been wracking my brain, trying to figure out where we have been in the last couple of weeks and I'm coming up empty on where she could have picked it up. I don't think we will ever know.

What I do know is, we probably got a few kids sick with it since we went swimming a couple times. And met up with a friend of ours today (although Brynna didn't actually touch him the entire time they were together so he may be safe).

On the bright side, it usually only lasts 5-7 days with the first 3-4 days being the worst. And we are on day 4 so tomorrow HAS to be better, right? RIGHT?

And we are thisclose to Batman getting home! Only a matter of a few days now :D

As disgusting as it is I bet it's from a shopping cart if you use those. They tested those once on Dateline(or 20/20? I'm not sure) and they are rittled with fecal bacteria. It's almost impossible to prevent picking it up(sanitizing and covering only work so well ykwim?)

I hope she feels better soon!

Poor little girl. What were her symptoms aside from fussiness/crankiness?

When you're a SAHM and your child has relatively little exposure to germs, you oftentimes wonder where they pick up these bugs from. I agree that shopping carts are pretty gross; I wipe them down with Clorox wipes and then use a shopping cart cover on top of that (which I wash frequently). I hope Brynna feels better soon. It sounds yucky. :(

Oh no, I hope she feels better soon. Another little girl I know just had that too, so maybe it's just going around?

I have to 2nd what Rikki said...those trusty shopping carts are a fabulous source of all kinds of things. Hopefully today is turning out better than the last 4 have been for you & that time is flying by so Batman will be home SOON!

I know someone who got it from a shopping cart too. Annika had it when she was in daycare along with her entire class!
Hope B feels better soon!
